9/11 and Nationalist Faith:

How Faith Can Be Illuminating or Blinding

The Iliff School of Theology

Denver, Colorado - October 19, 2007
89 minutes - includes Q & A

"People of faith" are often accused of allowing their faith to override evidence. This is sometimes the case. With regard to 9/11, the greatest obstacle to seeing the truth---that 9/11 was an inside job---is not the lack of evidence but what can be called 'nationalist faith'---the belief that America is the "exceptional nation," whose leaders never deliberately do anything truly evil, at least to their own citizens.

"Nathan Janes' painting of a dog blindfolded with an American flag captures the primary reason why it is so difficult to get the truth about 9/11 exposed. At the individual level, many Americans, having accepted on faith the idea that their leaders never intentionally do anything really evil, will not look at the evidence. At the public level, it is impermissible, in the mainstream media, to have a serious discussion of the evidence provided by the 9/11 Truth Movement. (Any mention of the movement's claims must be accompanied by attacks and ridicule.) So even if something like 50 percent of the population knows or at least suspects that 9/11 was an inside job, America as such remains blind to the truth."-David Ray Griffin
About NATHAN JANES: tinfoil hat profile

Nathan Janes is a graduate of The Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. Janes' acrylic paintings of vibrant canine subjects could be best described as a form of pop art. Janes is becoming increasingly known worldwide and has been published in a number of national and international publications. In 2005, Janes was named "Emerging Artist and Trendsetter," by Art Business News, the largest trade publication in the U.S.

Janes has created a number of original designs, which have been used to help support various nonprofit organizations that promote animal welfare. Among these projects, Janes has designed the first official ribbon for animals, the "Animal Guardian Ribbon," which is being distributed by Rational Animal to help support animal shelters nationwide.

"I want people to look at my art and get an emotional reaction- most people have had an animal that was close to them in their life. I hope that they see my art and remember those bonds that they have felt with some of the world's other living wonders." Janes also creates his art to help promote the humane treatment of animals. As part of his work Janes wants to educate about the pervasiveness of poor treatment towards family pets.

Janes strives to combat the popular perception that fine art can only be in certain styles or of certain subjects. According to Janes, "Now more than ever I am striving to push my work so that dogs are used as an artistic tool to depict deeper questions and messages about our society."
